Upcoming Events
There are a number of ongoing projects happening throughout the City. Many of the current improvements are critical to Taunton's aging infrastructure and are a sign of progression. The information on this page is meant to help residents and visitors carry out daily activities and avoid traffic during times of high construction and road work. MA DOT/ State Jurisdiction:
Rt. 138 (Broadway from Leonard St. - Purchase St.) - MA DOT Contractors will resume Phase 1 of the SMMPO TIP Project consisting of full depth reconstruction; traffic signal upgrades at the intersections of Washington Street and Purchase Street; 11-foot travel lane and minimum 5-foot bicycle lane in both directions; new cement concrete sidewalk along the corridor; new wheelchair ramps with detectable warning panels; crosswalks across all intersecting side streets; improvements to the existing drainage system; and new pavement markings and signs. Bicycle accommodations consisting of bicycle lanes and buffered bicycle lanes are provided in accordance with applicable design guides.
Rt. 140/ Rt. 24 (bridge replacement) - Starting August 22, 2021, MA DOT will begin bridge replacement work at Rt. 24 exit 12 Rt. 140 intersection. Demolition at the bridge will be conducted at night between 9P - 5A. Route 140 north bound will be detoured, and Route 140 south bound will have one lane closed with one lane open at all times.
